Waar rook is, is vuur

Kijk mee naar de foto's die Palley maakte van de bosbranden in Californië en andere foto's die hij maakte van vuur.

Etiwanda Fire, April 2014: A strong Santa Ana Wind event sent embers flying from burned-out trees in the Etiwanda Nature Preserve near Rancho Cucamonga, CA. As a wind-driven fire from offshore winds, all aircraft were grounded during the fire and the blaze was fought entirely from the ground, making control that much more challenging. While making this picture I felt a tingling sensation underneath my brush shirt collar and notice an ember was smoking and had burned a hole in the shirt. These wind driven fires are dangerous because embers can be blown miles ahead of the fire, starting new spot fires, getting into eaves of houses, and spreading faster than firefighters can control them. Reportedly wind gusts of over 100mph were measured, which is hurricane force. There were a few times when I had trouble standing up. The Etiwanda Fire exhibited rapid rates of spread in an urban interface area, forcing the evacuation of thousands of people in the foothill community along Route 66. Thanks to the efforts of initial attack firefighters, no homes were totally lost, but damage did occur on a historic property. The Etiwanda Fire demonstrated the dangerous combination of drought, high winds, and low humidity on the behavior of a wildfire. Historically, Santa Ana wind-driven fires have been the most destructive and deadly in wildfires occurring in the urban-interface area in California. The 2003 Cedar Fire in San Diego, and the 2007 Witch Fire were both Santa Ana driven fires, and were the most destructive in California history. The deadly Oakland Hills firestorm of 1991 was driven by the Diablo Winds in Northern CA and had similar tragic results. Video from 1991 shows the fire jumping an 8-lane freeway in the span of 60 seconds. Everyone was running for their life. When the National Weather Service forecasts an offshore wind event, it heightens the awareness of firefighters across the region, as Santa Ana Winds usually mean fire. #ca #california #cafire #cadrought #wildfire #fire #orange #la #losangeles #news #nikon #longexposure #terraflamma #night #etiwandafire #landscape #documentary @wildlandfirefighting @young_men_and_fire @drewjumpsin07 @chenpamela
